GENDER OFFICER



Concern Worldwide is an International humanitarian NGO working in Zambia since 2002. Concern’s Programmes focus on the extreme poor and work to improve nutrition, increase agricultural production, empower women and promote livelihood security and resilience in Central and Western Provinces. Gender equality and HIV & AIDS are mainstreamed within all Concern’s programmes.
We are currently looking to recruit a Gender Officer to be based in our office in Mongu. Concern is an equal opportunity employer and would welcome applications from qualified women.
Job Purpose:  The Gender Officer is responsible for the delivery of the women empowerment component of the Integrated Poverty Reduction and Women Empowerment Programme (IPRWEP) and Conservation Agriculture project. S/he will provide support in the design and implementation of women empowerment activities both by Concern and Partners’ programmes and systems.
Main roles and responsibilities
  • To lead the development of plans for women empowerment activities in Mongu, Limulunga , Senanga and Nalolo districts
  • To provide support for the implementation of the planned activities relate to gender and HIV and AIDS  in the target districts
  • Serves as HIV and AIDS focal person for these target districts
  • Though coaching, mentoring and training build and strengthen Concern and partners staff capacity to enable them mainstream gender into programmes
  • Train and support Concern and Partner’s staff to conduct gender analyses, and to plan using gender sensitive approach to deliver the programme
  • Contribute to annual planning and budget review  for activities  related to Gender and HIV and AIDS
  • Develop or adapt relevant methods and tools, such as guidelines for specific processes in relation to programme interventions
  • In collaboration with programme staff and partners participate in monthly monitoring, reviews and evaluation of project/programme activities and planning with partners
  • To work closely with PM&E Coordinator to develop equality related indicators as appropriate and  establish means of monitoring gender related indicators.
  • Support documentation of learning and sharing best practice with regards to mainstreaming best practices.
  • Contribute to the identification of advocacy issues, development and implementation of advocacy plans related to gender equality
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual reports on progress of implementing gender mainstreaming.
Other key tasks and responsibilities:
  • To adhere to and support the implementation of the Concern staff code of conduct and Programme Participant Protection Policy as described in the National Staff HR Manual.
  • Other tasks as directed by the line manager.
Education and Qualifications Required:
  • Relevant graduate or post-graduate qualification (e.g. in Gender Studies, Equality and Diversity, Organisational Development, or related discipline)
Education and Qualifications required
  • MA/BA in Gender studies, Development Studies or other social science
  • In depth understanding of practical gender and HIV mainstreaming in organisations, equality Advocacy
Experience and skills:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of working in NGOs to mainstream gender in programmes and in organisations
  • Commitment to capacity building of partners and beneficiaries
  • Ability to influence and persuade in difficult situations
  • Good interpersonal skills – ability to work in a team and to motivate and develop the skills of others
