VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISING OFFICER


Habitat for Humanity Zambia (HFHZ) is part of a world-wide non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry focused on eliminating poverty by providing simple, decent houses with families in need and to make shelter a matter of conscience and action. HFHZ invites people from all walks of life regardless of faith, race, gender or political affiliation to work together in partnership to help build houses with families in need.
Habitat for Humanity Zambia now invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Volunteer Fundraising Officer. The specifications for the position are as follows:
TITLE: VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISING OFFICER
DEPARTMENT: RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
REPORTS TO: SENIOR RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
CONTRACT TYPE: TEMPORARY
Key areas of responsibility:
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT / FUNDRAISING
  • Develop a local donor mapping system and tracker
  • Actively research and identify project/programme funding  opportunities in-country, Keeping Line Manager informed of any leads
  • Support the development of the fundraising and communications strategy: Work with the line manager and senior management team to develop the short-term and long-term strategy and plan required delivering the overall National program strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to meet funding requirements: Work closely with the line manager to scope opportunities to meet funding requirements and co-ordinate these plans within the National program.
  • Identify and secure new national based funding: Research and secure new funding streams from national-based corporate clients, individuals, foundations, trusts and statutory sources. Initiate and coordinate fundraising campaigns and events nationally to maximise new sustainable funding opportunities.
EVENT DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT
  • Work with teams to plan and design HfHZ events (including fundraising, donor education, cultivation, and stewardship events);
  • Actively grow the local builds engagements at least one quarterly
  • Organise Global Village Work Teams under the supervision of the Resource Development and Communications Officer (guided by the host coordinator job description)
  • Organize event logistics and follow up activities; and ensure smooth functioning of events
  • Manage and organize presentations and site visits for the various projects.
COMMUNICATIONS AND PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
  • Network with businesses, churches, funding bodies, government departments etc to source and secure funding for the National program
  • As assigned, attend meetings, functions, events and actively pursue linkages and partnerships
  • Develop and Implements the Donor Recognition Programme of donors managed such as thank you letters
  • Collate the needs (wish lists) from departments to include on the GV program ‘wish list’.
The following skills are essential for this position:
Complete fluency in English (written, oral, and comprehension) is essential; Incredibly high level of attention to detail;  Excellent written and oral communications skills; Collaborative, creative personality, with strong problem-solving skills; Highly motivated and able to take initiative with little supervision; Interest in and knowledge of sustainability issues; Ability to take initiative, manage multiple projects, and be accountable for deliverables

Payroll Expenditure: Commission based (Including Pension etc )
Knowledge (Education & Related Experience):
  • Minimum of a Diploma in Social Work, Marketing or Journalism
  • At least one year of work experience in communications, fundraising and donor relations;
  • Some experience in the creation and/or design of visual media/communications materials (print, digital, etc.);
  • Proficiency with PC based software programs (Word, Excel, Publisher), office technologies, and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google suite, Flickr, Picasa);
  • Demonstrated professional commitment to human and community development
  • A clean driving Licence
