Development Coordinator – Gender

CARE, an International Non-Governmental relief and development organization, has a vacancy available under the Nutrition at the Centre Project. This is a four-year project (2013-2017), funded through a private donor. CARE is working with relevant government line ministries.  The project endeavors to  contribute to increased global impact on reducing child and maternal malnutrition through  integration of strategies that enhance infant and young child feeding (IYCF) and maternal nutrition practices; food security; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); women’s empowerment; and maternal health. Along with the above integrated strategies, cross‐cutting strategies such as participatory governance, economic strengthening, and data for decision making will also be implemented to increase effectiveness.The project whose goal is to significantly improve maternal and child nutrition and health outcomes through implementation of integrated programs.

Job Summary
Responsible for carrying out projects’ gender process management activities in the districts.
Main duties Research-
  • As co-investigator work with the principal investigator on the Innovative, Metrics & Methods for Agriculture and Nutrition Actions (IMMANA) research.
  • Support Gender related program planning and management which includes implementation and monitoring of Gender activities in Chadiza and Lundazi districts
  • Oversee preparation and dissemination of timely analytical and critical reports including periodic reports on the progress of Gender project activities, proposals for improvements in operation and the scope of Gender program;
  • Ensure compliance with CARE policies, criteria and procedures with respect to project implementation;
  • Implement the district level Gender processes and ensure timely inputs for reporting and accountability; constant liaison with M&E Officer for data analysis and the Advocacy and Learning Officer for documentation.
  • Coordinate program implementation with other CARE projects and other Gender/nutrition initiatives at district levels, as necessary;
  • Engage in Gender and other women empowerment related capacity building of the field level implementing partners
  • Assist in promotion and implementation of operational research for nutrition
  • Perform any other duties as required for the success of the program
Coordination with other Stakeholders
  • Ensure planning, coordination and synergy across the program components (Nutrition/WASH/FS) Work.
  •  Work closely with the other INGOs, Local NGOs and Government counterparts, and build more partnerships;
  • Participate in the Health, Nutrition and HIV/AIDS sector related
  • Actively engage in the development of  joint program and their implementation of key government line ministries
  • Assist in developing strategies and policy guidance for gender capacity building that would enable the program record impact to women empowerment for Nutrition development;
  • Promote mechanisms for integrating gender across all project activities
Policy Engagement and Food and Nutrition aspects:
  • In consultation with the supervisor and CO management, seek ways to influence provincial and district gender policy and advocacy work.
  • Develop and evaluate alternative Gender program models to address maternal and young child under nutrition;
  • Develop innovative ways of addressing chronic and acute malnutrition in Zambia using
  • Actively engage in the setting up of nutrition assessment/surveillance systems, education and counseling for mothers and children under five
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Gender studies with at least five years experience. BSc Degree in social sciences with at least three years experience will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing Gender programmes in development settings and also experience in conducting research studies.
  • Good knowledge of Gender and women empowerment programmes and guidelines. Experience in Nutrition and Gender related activities will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of use of computers essential, including word processing, spreadsheets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good analytical and negotiating skills
