Business and Partnership Coordinator, AgriProFocus Zambia

1. Background
AgriProFocus ( is a partnership which aims to promote farmer entrepreneurship and food security in developing countries. The partnership originated in the Netherlands and has 13 country networks in Africa and Asia. The network in Zambia is a multi-stakeholder network which serves as a neutral marketplace for professionals from agri-businesses, producer organizations, NGOs, government, research institutions to share expertise and do business.
The Coordination team is hosted by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in Zambia and supported by the AgriProFocus Netherlands secretariat. Its responsibility is to create opportunities for multi–stakeholder action and to facilitate connections and business links between professionals and organizations through expert meetings, network events, dissemination forums, market research and publications.
2. Goal
The Business & Partnership Coordinator develops business linkages between members, coordinates the development of partnerships, and manages the business networking and learning platforms within AgriProFocus to promote sustainable farmer entrepreneurship in agriculture.
The Business & Partnership Coordinator will achieve this by:
  1. Building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with private sector, producer organizations, NGOs, financial institutions
  2. Brokering and linking role between international, national private sector and other investment opportunities.
  3. Developing and managing business networking and learning platforms.
3. Main tasks and responsibilities
The Business & Partnership Coordinator main tasks are:
Network development
  • Pro-active marketing of the network to prospective new members in the private sector.
  • Engaging with relevant stakeholders in the region/ country.
  • Representing AgriProFocus in relevant forums and meetings and inviting potential members to join AgriProFocus network respective Sub sectors.
  • Coordination and strong collaboration with strategic partners.
  • Work with other regional AgriProFocus networks to promote cross border trade and business relations.
  • Assist the Communications officer to develop an effective online market place.
  • Developing marketing materials for the Business Brokering service with support from the Communication officer.
One-on-one business brokering
  • Address specific questions from stakeholders related to business linkages or business climate.
  • Adding value to existing initiatives that link Dutch agri-business with Zambia
  • Identify and follow up new business partnerships during Agribusiness financial fairs, and other business events.

Organisation and facilitation of business and learning network events.
  • Organizing network meetings on issues and investment opportunities in agriculture.
  • Organize business 2 business meetings and business networking platforms between all AgriProFocus stakeholders including B2B, finance fairs, marketplaces amongst others.
  • Coordinating, organization and co-facilitation of network meetings and online interaction for learning trajectories like the Dairy Learning Lab.
  • Manage contracts/ MoUs with local partners for joint activities.
  • Generate resources from events through sponsorship and entrance fees.
Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Collect data and maintain contacts database on one on one business linkages with regard to intervention, direct results and impact.
  • Collect M&E data on business and networking events including outputs, outcomes and impact of the events on members.
  • Assist the strategic planning process
  • Contributing & participating in the AgriProFocus team meetings
  • Contributing to the drafting of country plan & progress reports
  • Participating in & contributing to advisory committee meetings
  • Provide support to the coordinator during high level network meetings
5. Time schedule
The Business and Partnership Coordinator is expected to start work on May 16th, 2016.
6. Qualification and Submission requirements
  • A minimum of a bachelor degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, Economics, or other relevant degree pertaining to agribusiness or business strategy with a strong affiliation to agribusiness development.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Excellent coordination and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in business linkage facilitation; organizing business networking events; and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Excellent written English and good computer literacy skills including use of Microsoft; Adobe and social media.
7. Working Environment
The Business and Partnership Coordinator will be based in Lusaka, and will be required to occasionally travel outside of Lusaka.
