Contract: Full Time – 2 year renewable
Project: “Growing the Informal Sector”
Location: Lusaka, Zambia
Reporting To: General Secretary
Your job responsibilities include organizing and administering of activities at the ZUFIAW Informal Sector.
While employed by the Company, you agree to work on a full-time basis exclusively for the Company and agree that you shall not, while you are employed by ZUFIAW, be employed or engaged in any capacity, in promoting, undertaking or carrying on any other business that competes with the ZUFIAW Informal Sector or interferes or could reasonably interfere with your duties to ZUFIAW without our prior written permission.
ZUFIAW is a Trade Union advancing the expression of the hopes and aspirations of workers in Zambia, while promoting equal opportunities, rights and duties for all employees: young and old, men and women alike.

  • Incorporate Marketeers into the informal sector.
  • To organize entrepreneurs in the informal sector
  • To generate funds for the desk as per ZUFIAW constitution.
  • To establish networking opportunities with various stakeholders.
  • Promote the acquisition of relevant essential competencies that could be used to produce goods and/or services efficiently and competitively, amongst the members.
  • Identify and organize training in basic entrepreneurial skills such as innovativeness, problem solving skills, risk taking, customer care, selling (counting, adding and subtracting – sorting out change), confidence and communication skills in collaboration with DGS Admin & Org and Director Workers Education.
  • Identify and operationalize funding for entrepreneurial development opportunities for members.
  • Organize linkages between the informal sector desk and government departments, embassies and other cooperating partners in collaboration with the Women’s Desk Coordinator.
  • Liaise with Secretariat in the operation and management of the Informal Sector Desk Accounts.
  • Raise funds for the Union by identifying funding and investment opportunities.
  • Give a monthly update on the operations of the desk.
  • Organize and recruit new members.
  • Formulate a working committee of prominent former & current ZUFIAW members and keep an updated register..
  • Develop and grow retail segment through supermarket sales, and manage necessary supply chain and logistics.
  • Create Oversee development and application of marketing and promotional activities (branding, campaigns, events, product packaging, and promotional materials).
  • Prepare the projects for export markets (when production allows) by obtaining necessary international certifications (e.g. FSC Certified) and export licenses.
Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Sales/Marketing, Development or in relevant field.
  • Strong relevant experience from private sector (business development, sales/marketing) as well as some exposure in rural development (community engagement, rural enterprises) – both are preferred. Min 3 years of working experience.
  • Experience in small business development and social entrepreneurship.
  • Strong communication skills—written and spoken—in English and local languages.
  • Ability and interest to travel frequently, including rural travel with basic accommodation.
  • Positive demeanor; including positive relationships with local communities/government.
  • Experience and ability to manage supply chain/operations.
  • Understanding and ability to collect and synthesize financial data.
  • Experience working on teams; excellent team-work dynamic.
  • Self-driven, independent, motivated, responsible, able to take initiative.
  • Fluency in English required; Proficiency in additional local languages
  • Strong computer and Android phone skills.
  • Understanding and interest in the ZUFIAW’s mission and aims.
