(Junior) Officer, Communications: Content and Marketing

(Junior) Officer, Communications: Content and Marketing 
The successful candidate will be a part of the ICLEI World Secretariat based in Bonn, Germany. He or she will join the Global Communications Team, which is responsible for communicating ICLEI’s work clearly and effectively to a diverse global audience through a variety of products and channels. 

The position is intended for someone with a communications or marketing background who is looking to directly influence and execute the global communications and marketing strategy of a dynamic, mission-driven global organization.

Details of the Position

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key functions:

• Strategic Marketing and Communications: Evaluate and define a strategy to strengthen the content and marketing area of ICLEI global communications, with the intent to:

o Build effective strategies to strengthen ICLEI’s brand, messaging and impact with target audiences.
o Select a mix of marketing and communications collateral and channels that achieve overall communications goals and objectives. 
o Optimize the use of websites, blogs and social media.
o Connect with potential sponsors, partners and event attendees.
o Regularly assess progress to inform periodic adjustments to the content and marketing strategy. 

• Technical Capacities: Utilize a mix of communications tools:

o Manage and use advanced communications tools, such as Typo3, Mailchimp, Twitter, Wordpress, etc. 
o Develop marketing and communications collateral that achieve organizational and project goals.

• Copywriting: Strategize and write compelling stories and headlines that elicit attention, response and action:

o Define and document best practices for copywriting that support the communications goals of a global organization such as ICLEI.
o Write effective targeted emails, news stories, blog articles, Tweets, etc.
o Research, write and edit content for ICLEI’s online and classic communications products, including newsletters, brochures, reports, etc.
o Maintain the global website, blog and various other media channels, while producing additional communication products to support the content and marketing strategy.

• Organizational Planning and Management: Support internal coordination and information sharing:

o Share knowledge across global and regional offices.
o Support the communication works of various projects, including the development and implementation of project communication plans.

• Degree in a relevant subject such as, Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, Journalism or a strong interest and proven experience in communications work with a degree in Politics, Urban Planning, Public Policy, International Relations or similar.
• Very good oral and written communication skills.
• Strong editing skills with an attention to detail.
• Ability to transform technical documents into easy to read and catchy text formats suitable for a diverse range of communication products and needs. 
• Ability to quickly develop high quality products and texts. 
• Creative, motivated and proactive attitude and approach.
• Organized working style, ability to follow through and deliver results.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented atmosphere.
• Excellent command in English – both written and spoken. Proficiency in another language is considered as an additional asset.
• Computer skills: Adobe Creative Suite, SEOs, HTML, MS Office. Experience with web content management, preferably Typo 3. Experience with databases would be an advantage.

Terms and conditions:
The position is available immediately at the ICLEI World Secretariat in Bonn, Germany. The planned duration is for at least one year, with the possibility of extension. The position is within ICLEI’s Communication Team, and the Content and Marketing Lead will report to the Head of Communications.

• ICLEI is offering a salary of Euro 27.000 – 32.000 per year before tax and social insurance fees, with the final salary to be determined based on the chosen applicant’s skills and experience.
• Workings hours: 40 per week, 30 days of paid leave per year.
• Working language: English
• Due to legal requirements, applicants must be eligible to obtain an appropriate work permit for Germany prior to the start of the position.
