About The Organization
ActionAid is an international organisation, working with over 25 million people in 45 countries for a world free from poverty and injustice. ActionAid Zambia (AAZ) is an Associate member of the ActionAid International Federation, and has been operating in Zambia since 2006.
About The Global Platform
ActionAid Zambia is opening a Global Platform (GP) to build on their global network of youth training hubs for empowerment and activism. The GPs are an extension of ActionAid’s strong experience providing formal and non-formal training using participatory methods. The key mandate of GPs is to equip youth with the confidence, knowledge and skills to be active citizens and to engage with decision makers on issues concerning them particularly related to governance and gender. The first GPs started in Tanzania and Denmark in 2009 and as of present has expanded to 10 training centres in Kenya, Jordan, Palestine, Myanmar, El Salvador, Ghana, Denmark, Bangladesh and Zambia. Global Platform Zambia is a regional hub for Southern Africa reaching out to youth from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi with its base in Lusaka, Zambia.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a trainer with a respect for young people and their views and who is passionate about activism and empowerment for social change. He/She must believe young people can be a catalyst for lasting positive change in their societies.  You must be open minded, flexible, and love a challenge. You will need to have an understanding of and commitment to participatory training methods either through experience or through academic study. Knowledge of and links to youth organizations and activists within Zambia and/or the region will be an added advantage. You will also be committed to ensuring your work has a lasting impact which can be documented and shared.
Key Responsibilities
1. Development and delivery of trainings
  • Together with the Global Platform Manager (GPM) and Training Quality Coordinator (TQC), lead new training development and design processes, ensuring that it meets the needs of the youth we want to work with;
  • Ensure strategies and objectives of AA Zambia and AA Zimbabwe are integrated and aligned with the overall development of new training courses;
  • Lead process of contextualization of existing training modules and activities;
  • Ensure involvement of relevant stakeholders, such as AA Zambia staff, Local Rights Programmes (LRPs), Activista and other partners while contextualizing, developing and designing trainings;
  • Produce training modules and knowledge products with support from GPM, TQC and Training Officers;
  • Prepare training participant profiles and recruitment strategy;
  • Plan logistics and brief course participants and guests to the platform when required;
  • Act as lead facilitator, facilitating sessions and taking account of feedback from participants;
  • Review training course budget utilization and report to GPM;
  • Support TQC to develop a strong M&E framework and database for developing baseline and end of course evaluations, as well as, an effective tracking system for participants to gauge the longer term impacts; and
  • Coordinate with other trainers to ensure all required M&E is completed.
2. Support the establishment of a vibrant youth hub
  • Support GPM and Activista to facilitate and develop the GP as a meeting place for youth with the necessary facilities for them to discuss, interact, learn from each other, research and organize activities they find relevant;
  • Contribute to building a network of partners, peers and relevant resource persons who can be included in GP trainings and activities;
  • Contribute to the strategic development of GP Zambia as a relevant, innovative and popular training center; and
  • Link with Activista and relevant local/regional/national youth organizations/networks where relevant
3. Support a learning organization
  • Actively participate in activities design to support the development of a learning organization;
  • Research new pedagogical trends;
  • Reflect on technical performance and work with TQC to review your training methodologies and content to ensure sure quality delivery and adherence to 6 Steps Principles;
  • Provide feedback to fellow trainers and support their professional growth;
  • Plan personal growth and development with GPM.
4.  Evaluating, learning and follow-up
  • Document and share stories of change;
  • Link former training participants with programme/project activities;
  • Provide support to former participant’s initiatives;
  • Provide support to GP Manager(GPM) and TQC to prepare annual plans and budget; and
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the GPM.
Qualifications & Experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree /Diploma from a recognized institution or equivalent experience in the field of facilitation and training content development/delivery;
  • Experience of working on capacity building of civil society organizations;
  • Demonstrated experience of working with young people and young activists;
  • Knowledge of Human Rights Based Approaches and gender based programming;
  • Past experience from movement building and participation in advocacy processes would be an advantage;
  • Have experience of working effectively in a multi-cultural team and reaching targets;
  • Have experience of priorities and managing a busy but varied workload

  • Communication: proven interpersonal skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to conduct presentations, articulate options and positions concisely; ability to make and defend recommendations; ability to communicate and empathize with staff (including international staff), and remain helpful towards the staff, but objective, without showing personal interest; capacity to transfer information and knowledge to a wide range of different target groups; and
  • Genuine commitment towards the human rights based approach principles, which include solidarity, compassion, reciprocity and self-reliance; and commitment towards the organization’s core values.
