Agricultural Specialist – Barclays Bank ZAMBIA

Job Purpose
To assist in achieving the Agribusiness sector strategic goals with regards to risk mitigation, innovative solutions and financial agricultural modelling.
Main accountabilities and approximate time split
Sales & service 85%
  • Agricultural research and keep abreast with all financial related products and solutions on offer to agricultural clients in the country and global markets.
  • Keep abreast of Government policies, strategies and initiatives in areas of responsibility to ensure sustainable and growth opportunities and solutions for the agric sector.
  • Analyse and report on the regional economic outlook and climate relating to Agriculture in the area of responsibility to senior management team and or/manager.
  • Identify and analyse risk and opportunities through interaction with role players in the agricultural sector.
  • Identify opportunities and gaps and provide solutions and offerings to meet opportunity or fill gap in the sector.
  • Conduct comprehensive competitor analysis in area of responsibility, document findings and present findings in a research report.
  • Conduct client needs analysis as frequent as needed or identified e.g. client visits and interaction, industry forums and debates, industry magazine and entrepreneurial and commercial analysis.
  • Conduct product/ solution gap analysis and analyse the products and solutions available by reviewing current products/solutions versus what the industry require and what the global financial markets are offering.
  • Assist relationship managers with sector specific industry knowledge and expertise in preparation or during client engagement.
  • Identify opportunities within the agricultural industry value chain for growth opportunities, cross selling and new innovative solutions.
  • Provide technical, economic and financial information to internal partners (e.g. Credit analysts, Relationship Manager, Credit department.)
  • Train, share knowledge and skills with all front line staff involved in agriculture sector.
  • Proactively interact with stakeholders e.g. product /solutions experts, agricultural economists and agricultural primary and secondary clients, financial clients and Co-operative/organised agriculture, non governmental organisations to obtain ideas and information for product development.
  • Provide and share technical, economic and financial information e.g. Climate trends, global trade forecasts and trade prices to relationship managers.
  • Assist relationship managers in identifying new clients with potential for growth, cross selling or book maintenance, by reviewing current exposure, cash flows, balance sheet, assets, commodity prices and internal/external demand on commodities.
  • Support and drive growth of agricultural credit (asset) and deposits (liabilities), promotion of agricultural related products and cross sale of other NBC products.
  • Compile an agri Business Report with recommendations from time to time.
  • Recommend risk management and mitigation strategies in the sector with credit and relationship teams.
  • Provide guidance and input with respect to poor performing clients/accounts with the goal of assisting to nurture them back to acceptable levels.
  • Support agricultural clients to ensure that losses/experienced in disaster situations are minimized.
Risk & Control: 15%
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
  • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.

Knowledge, Expertise and Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years financial services/banking experience/agricultural finance.
  • B.Comm or BSc degree in Agricultural economics.
  • Post graduate qualification in Business management will be an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of credit and or industry risk assessment.
  • Agri financial modelling and financial product development.
  • Accounting
  • Preferred Qualifications Degree in any business field or equivalent
