The U.S. Mission in Zambia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Carpenter.

Incumbent provides carpentry services at the main Embassy complex as well as embassy leased and
owned residences. S/he designs, builds, installs and maintains all types of wood objects such as
cabinets, book shelves, timbers for roofs, wooden doors and window frames, roof fascia boards, inland ceiling board, gypsum board (drywall) installation, etc. S/he operates and maintains hand equipment and power tools such as planers, routers and drills. The incumbent installs roofing sheets and repairs roofs using corrugated metal, slate, ceramic tiles and painted steel sheets; using appropriate nails, adhesive and roofing tar to attach the roof firmly making it water and leak proof.

1. EDUCATION: Completion of senior secondary school and trade certificate in carpentry is
2. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years working experience in the carpentry field, including roofing,
cabinetry, door hardware installation and maintenance, gypsum board (drywall) installation and
repair is required.

3. LANGUAGE: Good Working Knowledge (Level III) of English and Limited Knowledge (Level
II) speaking local language are required. Language proficiency will be tested.

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Physical dexterity and strength, ability to measure accurately,
conceptualize dimensional objects and ability to read plans and drawings are required. A valid
class B driving license with one year driving experience is required.
5. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of the use and care of various tools, woods and processed
boards, adhesive, and repair methods is required.
