The Western Province Medical Office (WPMO) in conjunction with the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been implementing programs aimed at improving the  management of TB, STIs and HIV/AIDS care services in the province since 2006. To further strengthen the programs, WPMO has dedicated part of the resources to recruit a Laboratory Program Officer. The employment is on an annual contract basis with possibility of renewal depending on performance and availability of resources.
Laboratory Program Coordinator (1 position)
Location: Provincial Medical Office, Mongu
Reports to: TB/HLV Program Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible with overseeing TB/OIISTI/HIV laboratory services in the scale up and sustained sites.
  • Development and coordination of an effective specimen courier system from health facilities through district laboratories to the provincial Lab in Mongu;
  • Ensures that DBS and Viral Load samples are timely worked on and result transmitted
  • Collaborates with Lab In Charges to ensure that schedules and approved absences are arranged to minimize laboratory back-logs and are adhered to;
  • Ensuring that all scale up and sustained sites are participating in HIV and TB proficiency testing and that results are submitted on time, and acceptable scores achieved;
  • Ensuring that each site has uninterrupted supply of reagents and other laboratory supplies for HIV diagnosis and patient monitoring including routine laboratory diagnosis and monitoring in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and Microbiology;
  • Ensuring that a full range of Microbiology laboratory testing is available to support full benefits of ART for PLHIV to control OIs, STIs and other microbial infections.
  • Supports and promotes laboratory improvement activities and implementation of QMS with the goal of achieving internationally recognized accreditation.
  • A minimum of a University Degree in Biomedical Sciences;
  • At least 3 years experience in managing laboratory programs;
  • Registered with the HPCZ with a valid practicing license;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Must have strong leadership, interpersonal and demonstrable analytical skills; and
  • Must be computer literate (Excel, Word and Power Point).
