Concern Worldwide Zambia (CWZ) is an International humanitarian NGO working in Zambia since 2002. Concern’s Programmes focus on the extreme poor and work to improve nutrition, increase agricultural production, empower women and promote livelihood security and resilience in Central and Western Provinces. Gender equality and HIV & AIDS are mainstreamed within all Concern’s programmes. Concern will also respond to emergency depending on level of the risk and vulnerability. Concern Worldwide Zambia – Job Description
Job Title: Management Accountant
Location: Lusaka (With travel to other Concern locations as and when required)
Grade: G 5
Reporting to: Country Financial Controller
Reporting from: N/A
Liaises with: ACD – Systems, Human Resource Officer, IT Officer, Logistics and Procurement Officer, Head Driver,  in Lusaka. District Programme Coordinators, Project Support Officers, Area Programme Coordinator, Programme Accountant, as well as all Administration Assistants.
Job purpose:
To provide management with accurate monthly financial management reports on a timely basis and assist in implementation of the financial rules & regulations in order to ensure effective use of funds in line with Concern and Donor regulations.
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Prepare management accounts and produce timely and accurate financial reports for managers
  • Coordinate preparation of cost variance reports in liaison with the relevant budget holders
  • Prepare accurate international staff personal accounts statements and send out to respective staff on time on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure proper accounting for Recharges to and fro other fields is done in liaison with the Finance Assistant and line manager.
  • Ensure all the GL accounts are properly reconciled and presented for review by the CFC
  • Review the cash books, time sheets, telephone logbooks, vehicle logbooks in relation to adherence to agreed systems and procedures before inputting the data in the GL and report to line manager on points that need the attention of higher authority.
  • Review weekly and monthly cash reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparation of Final Accounts and the budgeting process to ensure continuity of HQ reporting requirements as and when line manager is away from office.
  • Serve as a permanent member of the Purchase Committee to ensure that purchases are carried out in compliance with Concern’s Procurement policies and procedures and to ensure value for money.
  • Assist in designing/improving the financial control systems in order to protect the assets and interest of the organisation.
  • Assist in compliance with the laws of the country by Concern in relation to staff tax, VAT, NAPSA and other financial matters.
  • Assist in identifying the capacity building needs of the Concern staff in relation to accounts/finance and provide/ recommend training as necessary.
Other key tasks and responsibilities:
  • To adhere to and support the implementation of the Concern staff code of conduct and Programme Participant Protection Policy as described in the National Staff HR Manual
  • To contribute to the establishment of preventive measures to reduce the potential for abuse in Concern programme (as per P4 section 6).
  • To contribute to and support the implementation of Concern Zambia’s Humanitarian Accountability Framework and plan.
  • Other tasks as directed by the line manager.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications Required:
  • Completed ACCA Professional or full CIMA.
  • Full ZICA
Experience Required:
  • At least 3 years experience as an accountant or auditor.
  • Experience of working in or with an International NGO.
Special Skills, Aptitude or Personality Requirements:
  • Good understanding of budget and accounts,
  • Good analytical ability,
  • Highest degree of personal independence, integrity and honesty
