The I.T Manager will be responsible for the operation of all IT- and Communication systems in the hotel/business units.
The IT Manager will be charged with:
a)  Systems administration and operation
b)  User administration
c)  User support (first level support)
General scope of technology will include all electronic systems with some kind of logical decision capability deployed in the hotel. Including, but not limited to:
  • Web Development/ Maintenance
  • Front-office systems (PMS),
  • Telephone systems,
  • Point-of-sales systems,
  • Electronic lock systems,
  • Back-office systems,
  • Office Automation systems,
  • Electronic mail systems,
  • Personal Computers,
  • Local Area Networks,
  • Wide Area Networks (RDSAS VPN Net),
  • Video-systems,
  • Printers,
  • Fax machines,
  • Etc.
  • Ensure daily operation of all installed systems, i.e. giving the system users the agreed system availability and quality of operation.
  • Schedule, perform and verify regular data and system back-ups.
  • Schedule and secure other form of periodic tasks, such as larger batch-processing jobs etc.
  • Assure cleanliness of equipment and computer room etc.
  • Assure periodic preventive maintenance is carried out according to specified recommendations from the systems/equipment vendor and Corporate IT.
  • Maintain a system error-log, diagnose reported problems and relay problems to the appropriate support organisation.
  • Maintain user accounts with level of
  • Authorisation.
  • Secure physical access to computer room and other relevant areas according to Mika Hotels standards.
  • Secure sufficient safety copies of system software, application software and data to be stored off-site or on-site in approved fire-proof safes.
  • Review system logs for un-authorized access attempts, system errors etc.
  • The Systems Administrator must ensure sufficient fallback routines for all relevant, strategic applications. This includes written fallback procedures, periodic training of key-users, required material, forms etc. on stock.
  • All with the purpose of overcoming an unscheduled system halt with least possible loss of money and guest service.
  • Ensure all Mika instructions on Network and Systems security are implemented locally and followed at all times.
  • Maintains contact with all system vendors, both on a sales call basis, but also on technical level with relevant service engineers.
  • The IT Manager is also responsible for maintaining level of local knowledge regarding new systems on the market, general market trends etc. As such act as the hotels local knowledge base and management partner in the area of IT.
  • Participates in the negotiations for service and maintenance agreements for installed systems.
  • The IT Manager will participate in internal meetings regarding system development, and act as an internal consultant.
  • He/she will attempt to draft system requirement documents for presentation to the relevant vendors.
  • Plan Web site design by clarifying goals; designing functionality.
  • Develop site content and graphics by coordinating with copywriters and graphic
  • Artists; designing images, icons, banners, audio enhancements, etc.
  • Prepare site by installing and configuring server software; installing programming
  • Language using authoring and formatting tools; ensuring cross-platform compatibility; establishing links.
  • Establish locatability by registering with search engines (Search engine optimisation)
  • Upgrade site by updating content and graphics; monitoring performance and results; identifying and evaluating improvement options; introducing new technology; maintaining links.
  • Maintain site appearance by developing and enforcing content and display standards; editing submissions.
  • Protect site by designing and installing security precautions.
  • Installing and configuring computer hardware operating systems and applications;
  • Assist technology users in identifying and implementing systems improvements.
  • Setup, monitoring and maintaining TV’ network, computer systems, printers, telephones and networks; it is the responsibility of the IT Manager to ensure that the internal network is working accurately
  • Ensuring daily backup of all servers and Hotel management systems i.e. Ezee software, Dove, Tally and logs kept;
  • Ensures safety and security of computer room.
  • Monitor the performance of the computer software and maintains a log of performance reports, error and integrity check reports, system malfunctions and solutions.
  • Talking staff/guests through a series of actions, either face to face or over the telephone to help set up systems or resolve issues;
  • Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults;
  • Ensuring all network devices such as Access points, switches and hubs are working properly on a daily basis using a checklist.
  • Prioritising and managing many open cases at one time;
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records of all IT equipment in the unit.
  • Ensuring that all monthly reports (daily checklists and backup log)
  • Ability to establish a good working relationship with guests and staff
  • Testing and evaluating new technology;
  • To demonstrate pride in the workplace and personal appearance at all times when representing the hotel thus identifying a high level of commitment
  • The officer is expected to be creative and proactively plan his duties in order to improve the IT infrastructure of the unit Hotel under minimal supervision.
  • Helping M&E to set up AV equipment in meeting rooms and any other task as assigned
  • A minimum of a Degree in Information Technology
  • 4 years work experience in a similar position.
  • Should have the ability to anticipate problems before they occur and implement an effective solution without negatively affecting guest service
  • Professional appearance and demeanor at all times
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
