Program Coordinator , Mumbwa Child Development Agency (MCDA)



Mumbwa Child Development Agency (MCDA) is a child centered non-governmental organization. It is a membership based agency that is volunteer driven, non-profit making, non-religious, non-political and does not discriminate on account of tribe, sex, marital and physical status, race and/or nationality.

The agency is operating in eight wards of Mumbwa and Shibuyunji districts in partnership with ChildFund Zambia and Concern World Wide that include Nakasaka, Chisalu, Myooye, Nambala, Nangoma, Chabota, Shimbizhi and Kalundu communities delivering various projects catering for children, youths and women. The organization hereby seeks to recruit a suitable person to coordinate the implementation of youth (15 – 24 years) interventions across communities within catchement.

POSITION: Program Coordinator (PC)

ACCOUNTABILITY/REPORTING: Federation Manager

PURPOSE OF POSITION & JOB SUMMARY
The Project Coordinator is responsible for the management and overall delivery of various projects in the Federation. He/she will be expected to oversee the delivery of the organisation youth strategy in contribution to the realization of Skilled and Involved Youths (Life Stage 3).
The PC will support the Federation in planning and delivery of livelihood and agriculture projects in all the six communities of operation. He/she will coordinate and monitor programs, mentor community volunteers, Children, Youths and parents with a goal of becoming “effective leaders of their own communities”. The coordinator will also manage personnel in two community associations and will ensure effective and efficiency management of Sponsor Relations, he/she will also collaborate with other stakeholders at district and community level in project and program delivery.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in the development of the organisation strategy, project delivery documents as well as annual plans
Timely submission of narrative and financial reports (monthly, quarterly and annual reports)
Participate in resource mobilization (concept paper and proposal writing)
Strengthen volunteer participation in program implementation
Enhancing collaborations with other stakeholders in project implementation
Overseeing program/project delivery
Conduct home visits to provide support, guidance, training to families and monitor sponsor relation activities
Work with the community volunteers and Community Development Facilitators to ensure that sponsored children and families participate and benefit from the programs implemented by the organisation
Ensuring that sponsor relations activities are carried out in a timely and professional manner and in accordance with ChildFund sponsorship policy
Maintaining high standard of stewardship and accountability for all resources entrusted to him/her
A good understanding, appreciation and adherence to child protection issues/policies
Knowledge and skills in engaging children and youth in activities that promotes their development
Work with communities to ensure quality delivery of projects and programs
Manage community assets entrusted to on behalf of the federation
Mentoring community volunteers to effectively monitor implementation of programs and projects
Ensuring that parents, community members, children and youths actively participate in project review and planning meetings
Leasing with institutions in the community, government departments and structures in planning and implementation of programs that benefit vulnerable children in the community
Provide effective representation of interests of children and youth among the partners and networks stakeholders at the community and district levels

COMPITENCIES
Experience in working with Non-Governmental and Community based organisation
Knowledge and understanding of child sponsorship standards is an advantage
Must be highly reliable and independent, able to work with minimal supervision under pressure
Possess well-developed networking abilities, and able to interact well with children, youths, adults in communities, area staff, and community volunteers
Dynamic and result oriented
Able to network with other collaborating partners in development
Computer proficiency in general office software applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Power point)

EXPERIENCE
At least three years’ work experience in managing projects and youth programming
At least two years of work experience in Monitoring and Evaluation of the effectiveness of programs in NGOs desirable
Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English, fluency in a local language (Tonga, Lenje, Nyanja, Soli, Chikunda, Nsenga etc) is a must
Internal candidates are encouraged to enclose recommendation letters from their immediate supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Diploma in social work, Agriculture, Education or Early childhood Care and Development, or relevant human service discipline, and equivalent relevant work experience
*Knowledge in motorbike riding/motor vehicle driving is a must for the position
