Business Associate, Nutrition Program

Founded in 2002 by President William J. Clinton, the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health systems around the world and expanding access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and other illnesses. Based on the premise that business oriented strategy can facilitate solutions to global health challenges, CHAI acts as a catalyst to mobilize new resources and optimize the impact of these resources to save lives, via improved organization of commodity markets and more effective local management. By working in association with governments and other NGO partners, CHAI is focused on large scale impact and, to date, CHAI has secured lower pricing agreements for treatment options in more than 70 countries. In addition, CHAI's teams are working side-by-side with over 30 governments to tackle many of the largest barriers to effective treatment and care.
CHAI's nutrition program is partnering with Governments to establish programs that fill dietary gaps during early development: improving the nutritional status of pregnant and lactating women; encouraging exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months of life; and promoting nutrient-dense complementary foods, alongside continued breastfeeding, for children from six months to two years of age. Since most households lack year-round access to sufficiently nutritious foods, CHAI is working with governments and private partners to develop a suite of nutritious products for infants and young children and for pregnant and lactating women that is produced locally, based primarily on local agricultural products, and aligned with local eating habits. To ensure sustainability, complementary nutritious foods will be produced affordably and promote the economic development of rural populations, where livelihoods rely heavily on smallholder farming. CHAI is exploring the feasibility of launching this program in several African countries, Zambia being one.
CHAI is seeking a competent and qualified individual with proven experience in business analytics, strong project management skills, and excellent relationship management skills to assess the feasibility of launching the nutrition program in Zambia, with the potential to then play a role in managing the next phases of the program going forward. The Position is for duration of 6 months.
In particular, the incumbent will liaise with relevant Ministries, other government offices, the local business community, and international food processing companies to build a feasible and sustainable model for local production of fortified complementary and supplementary foods. He/She will also be responsible for working with partners in government and the private sector to develop a sustainable business model for the project and set up an appropriate ownership and management structure to oversee production. Once a business model has been established, the incumbent will be responsible for developing programmatic plans to ensure widespread uptake of nutrient-dense foods, including distribution, education, and evaluation plans, under the leadership of the relevant government partners.
